Next Door at Astor Place is a true culinary adventure located at the Wegmans store in the East Village. Led by chef Oliver Lange and our exceptional team, you will help deliver delicious contemporary Japanese cuisine which draws inspiration from around the world.

The art deco inspired space, in a nod to the historic origin of the building, will be both welcoming and comfortable. Guests will enjoy a wonderfully immersive and entertaining experience from any seat in the house and personalized, next-level hospitality. We'll be opening our doors in Spring 2025! Our mission is to provide incredible service and a one-of-a-kind dining experience for our guests. As a Sushi Line Cook, you will develop and use your food passion to produce unique sushi offerings in a high-volume, open kitchen restaurant. As you continue to learn, grow, and fuel your passion for food, you’ll find the possibilities at Wegmans are endless.

What will I do?

• Ensure incredible service is provided by effectively handling a variety of tasks
• Follow proper recipes, knife skills and cooking techniques to provide consistent ingredients and finished products
• Balance prep work while ensuring guests meals are prepared in a timely manner while maintaining high standards
• Possess an understanding of ingredients used and menu offerings, sharing knowledge with restaurant team members
• Comply with applicable State Restaurant Health Codes and Regulations

Required Qualifications

• 1 or more years’ experience working as a sushi/maki line cook
• Knife skills
• Enthusiasm for and knowledge of relevant ingredients and cuisine

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor's degree in culinary arts
• Experience handling sashimi-quality fish
• Experience preparing sushi in a high-volume environment
