Job Description

Warren Wilson College is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Senior Systems and Integration Architect to join our dynamic IT team. You will work directly with the Director of IT to design and implement integrations between our critical enterprise systems, modernize our technology infrastructure, and eliminate manual processes through intelligent automation. This role bridges business needs with technical solutions, leading strategic architecture initiatives while collaborating with IT staff and contractors to maintain operational excellence. 

The schedule for this position requires regular on-campus hours, and offers limited remote work based on operational needs and Director approval. Occasional evening and weekend work is a requisite for critical infrastructure incidents, system maintenance and deployments. With a monthly on-call rotation as a key responsibility, the person in this role must live within a 45-minute commute from Warren Wilson College campus in the Asheville surrounding area.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related technical field OR an Associate's degree in a computer science related field AND a combination of preferred professional certifications and/or bootcamps equalling two years of study.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive IT experience with at least 3 years in systems integration, architecture, or enterprise applications development.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people from a diverse range of identities and experiences.
  • Ability to mentor students and junior technical staff and develop team capabilities
  • Commute time within 45 minutes to Warren Wilson College is required.
  • Demonstrable understanding and experience with the following technical skills:
    • Integrations using Python and PowerShell between enterprise systems (ERP, CRM, LMS, or similar platforms) utilizing APIs, data pipelines, or automated workflows using scripting/programming languages
    • Working with cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure, Google Workspace, AWS) and identity management systems
    • Database concepts with ability to write and optimize SQL queries
    • Windows Server, Linux, Active Directory, and Azure AD/EntraID administration
    • Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, VPNs)
    • Version control (Git), CI/CD concepts, and infrastructure as code principles
    • Monitoring and logging tools for troubleshooting integration and infrastructure issues

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or related field.
  • Professional certifications such as: Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, TOGAF, Certified Integration Professional, or relevant vendor certifications
  • Direct experience with Jenzabar ERP platform, Slate CRM by Technolutions and / or Moodle
  • Previous experience in higher education IT environment, particularly liberal arts colleges
  • Experience with DevOps practices, containerization (Docker), and orchestration platforms
  • Knowledge of data governance, privacy regulations (FERPA, GDPR), and compliance frameworks
  • Background in data analytics, business intelligence, or reporting platform integration

Key Responsibilities

In priority order, this role ensures: (1) enterprise system integration and automation, (2) technical architecture and infrastructure strategy, (3) operational stability and security oversight

Enterprise Systems Integration & Automation

  • Design, develop, and maintain integrations between ERP software and SaaS systems, designing automated workflows using Python, PowerShell, REST APIs, and integration platforms
  • Develop automated processes to eliminate manual data entry across all areas of the College and ensure data integrity, monitor integration failures, and notifications
  • Design and assist in implementation of Single Sign-On (SSO), trust, and authentication integration across enterprise and cloud applications

Technical Architecture & Infrastructure Strategy

  • Define and guide maintenance for Warren Wilson's enterprise technology architecture including cloud platforms (Azure, Google Workspace), ERP optimizations, system migrations, security implementations, endpoint deployment processes, and infrastructure modernization projects
  • Assist the Director in evaluation and recommendation of technology solutions, disaster recovery plans, recovery procedures, testing methodology, and conducting proof-of-concepts for new systems
  • Plan capacity and scalability requirements for servers, storage, networking, and cloud resources based on institutional growth projections

Infrastructure Operations & Security Oversight

  • Oversee lower-tier systems administration including patching, backups, monitoring, and certificate management; manage complex operations requiring institutional knowledge
  • Design endpoint and server policy frameworks using Intune, Apple School Manager, and remote management tools; respond to infrastructure incidents requiring architectural expertise
  • Lead security architecture initiatives including zero-trust implementation, network segmentation, and security reviews; coordinate with external SOC on threat response and vulnerability remediation

General Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain documentation of technical standards, design patterns, and SOPs for systems integration, security, network, and infrastructure operation
  • Engage in self-directed professional development aligned with campus needs and personal growth 
  • Support the Progressive Promise and mission of Warren Wilson College through participation in the life of the College.
  • Participate in on-call rotation approximately one week per month for critical infrastructure incidents and major system deployments
  • Perform other duties as assigned
