About the Role:
We are seeking a Senior Java Developer to support a critical migration project for a large client, focusing on upgrading legacy systems for improved security and performance. In this 100% remote role, you will be an essential part of the team that drives the migration from Struts 1 to Struts 2, alongside upgrading the application from Java 6 to Java 8. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a high-impact project that requires strong expertise in Java and web development frameworks.
Key Responsibilities:
Software Development Lifecycle: Actively contribute to all phases of the software development lifecycle, including gathering requirements, designing scalable solutions, coding, and providing deployment support.
Java Development: Design, develop, debug, and test programs in Java 6 or higher (SE/EE), ensuring that all code is cross-browser compliant.
Technology Updates: Stay current with new web technologies and participate in training to keep your skills sharp.
Project Management: Work closely with the project team to measure, review, and forecast project status, and actively address any project risks or challenges.
Mentorship: Support and mentor junior developers, offering guidance and conducting peer code reviews to help them grow.
Skills & Qualifications:
Experience: At least 5 years of programming experience with a focus on Java and web technologies. Experience with relational databases like DB2 UDB is preferred.
Java Expertise: Strong background in Java (versions 5/6 or higher), EJB3.x, JDBC, JSP/Servlets, Web Services, and SQL. Familiarity with Java EE servers (e.g., WebSphere) is a plus.
Struts & Migration: Expertise with the Struts framework and experience with Struts migration (MVC) from version 1 to version 2.
Frameworks: Experience with the Spring Batch framework, as well as web technologies like JQuery, Ajax, CSS, and Angular.
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and guide junior resources.
Bonus: Experience in the healthcare IT domain is a plus.

This position will support the upgrade of a critical web application, migrating from an older, vulnerable version of Struts 1 to the latest, more secure Struts 2 framework. Additionally, you will help upgrade the system from Java 6 to Java 8 to ensure the application is secure, scalable, and future-proof.
