The National Western Stock Show is in search of a detail-oriented, highly motivated professional to join our Accounting department as a seasonal Staff Accountant.

Established in 1906, the National Western Stock Show is the premier livestock, rodeo, and horse show in the nation, serving agricultural producers and consumers throughout the world. We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization providing education in agriculture, including college and graduate-level scholarships in agriculture and veterinary medicine for practice in rural areas.

The National Western Stock Show, one of Colorado’s preeminent tourist destinations, is held every January for 16 days. A nationally recognized western heritage and entertainment event,

the stock show hosts one of the world’s richest regular season professional rodeos, one of the country’s largest horse shows, and Colorado’s largest western trade show, attracting attendance numbers over 700,000 visitors each year.

Throughout this historic event, the National Western strives to strengthen American agriculture through enrichment programs and youth education in livestock, equestrian, farming, ranching, animal awareness, and appreciation. We celebrate western lifestyles, our communities, and provide life-long memories and family traditions.

Reports to: Controller

Staff Accountant Responsibilities

Revenue Recognition/Accounts Receivable:

Oversee effective and efficient review and processing of accounts receivable

Prepare customer invoices

Review accounts receivable aging reports

Apply cash receipts to customer accounts 

Make all bank deposits and reconcile credit card settlements

Investigate and collect past due (60+) receivables

Make phone calls, send letters and emails, and recommend other collection procedures as appropriate

Procurement/Accounts Payable:

Set up and maintain vendor account information, including annual 1099 reporting

Process a high volume of manual and electronic invoices

Process weekly check run, ensuring proper back-up, coding, authorization, and approvals are in place

Define and write an RFP document for selected categories/vendors

Work with departments to stay within budget guidelines

Reconcile A/P system with vendor statements

Maintain accounts payable documentation filing system

Identifies potential suppliers and issues requests for quotations

Communicating professionally with suppliers and employees

Able to apply appropriate sales and use tax to appropriate company transactions

Payroll:

Process bi-weekly payroll including but not limited to timekeeping audit, employee payroll policy assignment, data transfer, upload payroll file, general ledger posting, pay-card upload

General Ledger reconciliation between payroll system and payroll liability accounts

Reporting requirements with multiple agencies

Department support and training in payroll timekeeping system

Benefit reconciliations between payroll and benefit vendors

Maintain payroll documentation filing systems

Provide support to pay-related employee requests, including but not limited to social service requests, wage assignments, employment verification, direct deposit, W4

Troubleshoot and resolve software issues working directly with multiple application consultants

Understanding of the concept of confidentiality

Job Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration

Ideal candidate has 3 to 5 years of experience in field

Excellent computer skills; experience in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite; Access, database, preferably NetSuite and Paylocity

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)·

Excellent written and verbal communication skills·

Attention to detail·

Able to work well other team members

Excellent internal and external customer service skills

Compensation:

This is a seasonal position with the National Western Stock Show.

No Benefits are provided

Work begins in September 2025 – March 2026

Compensation for this position will range from $35.00 to $40.00 per hour, depending on experience
