POSITION SUMMARY

The IMPACTS (Increasing Mentor Participation and Commitment to Success) Facilitator works under the direction of the Promise Coordinator to recruit, train, and retain adult mentors to effectively support teens (ages 13-19) attending the Best Buy Teen Tech Center (BBTTC) in developing STEM-field skills, fostering college and career readiness, and ultimately developing individualized plans for their future success. The IMPACTS Facilitator will model high quality mentoring by designing and leading activities that prompt youth to explore their identities, experiences, and goals through the use of technology.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Lead mentor recruitment and retention

• Conduct mentor outreach and assist the Coordinator in developing partnerships with schools, community organizations, and other City departments to bring resources and opportunities into the BBTTC.
• Recruit mentors of diverse racial backgrounds to foster feelings of belonging in STEM fields for youth of diverse racial backgrounds.
• Ensure all volunteer mentors are properly screened and meet all qualifications and requirements to ensure the safety of youth in the program.
• Provide effective orientation and ongoing training and monitoring for mentors in order to build applicable skills, to develop meaningful and appropriate relationships between mentors and youth, and to ensure alignment with program goals.
• Pre-designate volunteer mentor assignments, check in with volunteer mentors regularly, and maintain volunteer sign-in logs to provide meaningful volunteer experiences.
• Facilitate monthly meetings between adult mentors and youth to intentionally prepare for post-secondary opportunities.

Facilitate project-based learning for youth and families

• Use Promise Planning Procedures and The Clubhouse Network Learning Model to plan and implement high quality activities and supervise youth engaged in project-based learning with mentors around STEM and college and career readiness.
• Work with The Clubhouse Network to facilitate opportunities for local youth to collaborate with members of other Clubhouses around the world on projects that build foundational technical and work-place skills.
• Help plan and host quarterly family events that share resources and empower families to navigate post-secondary opportunities and support their children in attaining their career goals.

Support overall program management

• Ensure safety and order of youth, participants, staff, and volunteers by maintaining cleanliness of program spaces, using proper check-in and check-out procedures, using a Trauma-informed approach to behavior management, etc.
• Outreach to young people, parents/caregivers, educators, and community leaders to recruit participants ages 13-19 who live, work, worship, or attend school in the City of South Salt Lake.
• Collaborate with other staff in the BBTTC to implement strategies to retain youth in programming.

Operations

• Adhere to all City and department policies
• Adhere to the IMPACTS 4.0 grant requirements as established by the Department of Justice to "create a safe, inclusive, equitable, and professional environment for youth, families, volunteers, staff, and partner organizations" (i.e. schools, city departments, United Way of Salt Lake, higher education institutions, and others.)
• Attend all appropriate meetings for the position as assigned including monthly Promise Leadership Meetings and the IMPACTS 4.0 Community of Practice.
• Travel to professional conferences and meetings including those required by Best Buy and The Clubhouse Network (Immersion Week, Annual Clubhouse Network Conference, and Teen Tech Center Summit.)
• Participate in training and self-directed learning in order to develop skills for using technology in the Teen Tech Center including professional video and photo equipment, music recording tools, graphic design programs, and more.
• Communicate about all interactions with youth, participants, families, partners, and updates on program development. This includes cc'ing Coordinator and Deputy Director on all email communications and regularly contributing to an IMPACTS Slack channel.
• Ensure all reporting requirements are met including collecting youth and mentor participation data, delivering annual surveys and evaluations, monitoring mentor retention, utilizing PSSL and Clubhouse Network data entry and management systems
• Develop functional knowledge of key programs and applications including Salesforce, GivePulse, Clubhouse Village, Discord, Slack, and others.
