The Bureau of Firearms staffs are leaders in providing firearms expertise and information to law enforcement, legislators, and the j;jeneral public in a comprehensive program to promote legitimate and responsible firearms possession and use by California residents. What will I be doing?

Under the general supervision of the Crime Analyst Supervisor (CAS) of the Quality Assurance and Firearm Record Review Teams, the Crime Analyst (CA) I is responsible for processing Firearm and Ammunition Record Review applications received from individuals who were denied a firearms related permit, employment requiring the possession or ownership of a firearm, or the ability to purchase, sell, transfer, and/or register a firearm or ammunition after an initial Basic Firearms Eligibility Check (BFEC) or Basic Ammunition Eligibility Check (BAEC) was conducted. The CA I conducts a new BFEC or BAEC, as appropriate, for applicants to ascertain the individual’s ability to own or possess firearms and ammunition. On occasion, the CA I may be required to work mandatory overtime or assist other Bureau of Firearm  Eligibility Branch Teams. Time off requests between the months of November through January may not be granted.

The CA I should have a general knowledge and understanding of California statutory codes, the criminal justice system, and regulations governing eligibility to purchase/possess firearms and/or ammunition in California.

The candidate should be able to follow oral and written instructions; analyze written and statistical data; write effectively; experience
