3rd Shift Assistant Shift Supervisor – Clinical Inpatient (Detox & Residential Services)

Location: Samuel Billings Center | 429 Billingsley Rd, Charlotte, NC 28211
Schedule: Full-time | 11pm- 7:30am | Flexible shifts (may include evenings, weekends, or holidays) 
Reports To: Shift Supervisor
FLSA Status: Hourly / Non-Exempt

About the Role

The Assistant Shift Supervisor plays a key leadership role in supporting the daily operations of the Samuel Billings Center. This position ensures the safety and smooth functioning of the facility during assigned shifts by supervising staff, coordinating care, and maintaining compliance with State and agency standards. In the absence of the Shift Supervisor, this role leads the team to provide high-quality, compassionate care to clients in our detox and residential programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support staff during assigned shifts to maintain safe and effective operations.

  • Ensure services and documentation comply with all State and agency regulations.

  • Conduct intake screenings, admissions, and client transitions; assist in discharge planning as needed.

  • Collaborate with nursing and clinical staff regarding client care, health, and safety.

  • Administer medications (per provider orders), perform UDS screenings, and provide CPR/First Aid when required.

  • Lead shift reports, communicate key client and staff information across shifts, and manage incident reporting.

  • Provide leadership during crisis or emergency situations, ensuring client and staff safety.

  • Support client recovery by facilitating groups or individual discussions when appropriate.

  • Train and mentor staff, fostering teamwork, morale, and a positive workplace culture.

  • Participate in quality assurance (QA/QI) activities and ensure documentation meets standards.

  • Perform the duties of subordinate positions as needed to maintain operations and staffing ratios.

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience:

    • Associate degree preferred; or one year of related experience/training; or equivalent combination.

    • Supervisory experience preferred.

    • Must meet criteria for a Qualified Professional (QP) and/or maintain certification with the North Carolina Addictions Specialist Professional Practice Board (NCASPPB).

  • Licenses/Certifications:

    • Valid NC or SC Driver’s License required

    • CADC preferred

  • Skills:

    • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office and electronic health record systems.

    • Ability to remain calm and effective in crisis situations.
