The Bus Monitor assists the Bus Driver in providing safe bus transportation for Head Start children, assuring that each child is picked up and delivered on schedule daily. This position works approximately 30 hours per week.
Typical Duties
Ensure that the bus driver is not distracted from safe operation of the vehicle.
Ensure each child is positioned properly with seat belts, car seats, or other appropriate restraints as mandated per age and weight by state law.
Ensure that any behavioral issues do not compromise the safety of any child on the bus.
Assist children in getting on and off buses and into the care of a responsible adult (on the authorized list) upon leaving the bus.
Ensure that no child is ever left unattended while on the bus, following all procedures put in place to prevent a child being left behind.
The Bus Monitor must have, at a minimum, a high school diploma or a GED.
Must have experience working with preschool-age children.
Ability to pass a background and drug test.
