The DSH-Metropolitan State Hospital is accepting applications for Automotive Equipment Operator I vacacncy in the General Services/Transportation Department. * Position is Limited Term for 12 months. This position may be terminated at any time or may become permanent at a later date *

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).

Under the direction of the Automotive Pool Manager II or designee, the duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to operate and service passenger vehicles, trucks, small-wheeled tractors, and similar motor equipment; general laboring work; may instruct, lead or supervise wards or resident workers; operates, services, washes, and makes minor adjustments and repairs to passenger vehicles, trucks, small-wheeled tractors, and other automotive equipment; transports passengers; loads, unloads, and delivers laundry, food, furniture, freight, farm products, gravel, rubbish, and other materials; performs miscellaneous manual laboring work and messenger service; keeps simple records, and other related work. This position is fast paced and requires a wide variety of assignments within a hospital setting. Applicants must possess commercial driver license A or B including Passenger endorsement. The position(s) require(s) a valid California Drivers License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your application. Candidates selected to move forward in the hiring process will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s record from The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Training & Development (T&D) Assignment

T&D assignments are temporary assignments of up to 24 months made for the purposes of providing career advancement opportunities to prepare permanent civil service employees for future promotions into new occupational fields.

An employee currently in a Limited Term position is not eligible for a T&D assignment. The employee may, but is not required to, satisfy the minimum qualifications of the T&D classification; except, the employee shall possess any licensure, certificate, or similar credential that is a component of the minimum qualifications.

To ensure that your application will be considered for a T&D assignment in this recruitment, you must complete the STD 678 employment application in its entirety and include “Training & Development” in the job title section of the application .  

Failure to indicate required information on the STD. 678 or submit all items by the Final Filing Date may result in elimination from the recruitment process.
